"Frank Sang the Blues" is an abstract photography series born as an homage to the profound love I hold for my mother. It turns its gaze towards individuals from the past who carry the palpable weight of lives lived under the pretense of tradition or familial love, yet are deeply marked by dishonesty. In their suffering, I see a reflection of the corrosive effects of deceit.
The choice of depicting a white family is a deliberate exploration of the historical dishonesty inherent in whiteness and how this can fundamentally undermine love, mirroring the destructive nature of infidelity and lies. "Frank," a name borrowed from James Baldwin's Go Tell It on the Mountain, echoes the themes of marital betrayal and its ensuing suffering found within its pages, lending a voice to the melancholic "blues" of this series.
